See it now at #coveteur.com: “This is a traditional maquillage from the Congo. My father co-founded the first National Ballet in Congo. They would use different ways to embellish their beauty, and this was one dialect to how they would paint their faces. I was given this mark when I was very young from my father—all of our siblings actually have them, I just wear it more frequently. I wear mine, obviously because I’m an artist, but we wear colors for different meanings—I wear white because I lost my father in 2012, [and] since then it’s been about carrying on his tradition. I wear the white to pay homage to him.”
